Spark of Madness

Unearthed Dance Company

Back for 2023 after their successful run of highly recommended shows at last year’s Festival Fringe, Edinburgh's Unearthed Dance Company bring a brand-new bill of eclectic bite-sized contemporary dance works to the stage.

Delving into the creative minds of Unearthed, this show is a must-see for those with a love of dance and movement. Unearthed's catalogue of expressive, innovative choreography with a creative focus explores issues within society and the diverse complexities of human behaviour.

The energetic, compelling and charismatic nature of the company will leave audiences with a spring in their step and yearning for more.

Programme

Spark of Madness - Programme Information

You, Me & Them
Our opening piece explores the impact that constant surveillance has on our society. Questioning, are you the watcher or being watched?

Book Worms
Inspired by the much loved Roald Dahl classic, Matilda; Book Worms explores the gift of imagination when storytelling and the wonderful creative worlds that reading books create.

Disconnected Self
Exploring the impact of human connection and the impact it has on the human experience when that is taken away. Disconnected Self explores the need for connection in a world that can leave you feeling alone in a crowded place.

Piece of Meat
Created in response to concerns over womens safety, their basic human rights and the lengths they go through to simply walk home. We are fed up. We are not a Piece of Meat.

Dancing Dead
Inspired by the events of the 1518 Dancing Plague, where people were struck with a sudden and uncontrolable urge to dance, many dancing to their deaths due to exhaustion. Dancing Dead takes inspiration from the hysteria and distress of the epidemic where the dancers try to fight not to give in to the plague.

  • This is a must see! Superbly talented dance group featuring sublime choreography and an eclectic sound design that is just so on point! The venue is nice and intimate, giving you a chance to really feel like you are part of the performance. Have been twice already, and might even make it a third before the run ends! IT'S THAT GOOD!!

  • Ahead Of The Curve is the best dance show I have seen programmed in a Greenside Venue for a long time. This show is fast paced, moving and inspiring to watch. Pefrormed by an all female ensemble presenting a phenomenal movement style and outstanding unity. I can't wait to return to see this before their run ends. It is also humbling that a small local Edinburgh company can present this calibre of work on the international stage.
